Industrial designer

We are currently looking for an Industrial Designer to join our Products team.

Reporting to the Product Development Manager, the role of Industrial Designer is essential for new product launch activities and for the maintenance/evolution of the existing product range. You will work on the mechanical design and development of products and prototypes, maintain product documentation, while respecting deadlines and quality standards; as such, the candidate will be involved in the continuous improvement of product ranges throughout their life cycle, from design to prototyping, testing to production release, right through to market launch.

The candidate may also be involved in upstream product research projects, in collaboration with marketing, sales and/or operations. The candidate must be versatile, proactive and resourceful. In addition, the designer must have solid technical knowledge, be curious and eager to learn. The ideal designer has strong organizational skills and is able to work on several projects at once, in a fast-paced environment.

Tasks :

 

  • Design standard products according to brief;
  • Carry out research and trend studies, ideation, sketches, mock-ups, prototypes, renderings;
  • Participate in R&D development testing, problem solving and product optimization;
  • Participate in design reviews;
  • Produce and maintain parts and assembly drawings;
  • Produce and update product documentation as required (data sheets, assembly drawings, installation plans, water paths, other diagrams, etc.);
  • Create and manage products and bills of materials (BOMs) in ERP;
  • Follow-up with existing suppliers and opportunity monitoring (R&D phase);
  • Follow-up and support tasks for the team.

Qualifications :

 

  • DEC or bachelor's degree in industrial design or equivalent;
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in a similar role;
  • 3D / 2D design skills;
  • In-depth knowledge of Solidworks or equivalent 3D parametric software;
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop) and Keyshot (3D rendering software);
  • Knowledge of Office Suite (mainly PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Understanding materials and manufacturing processes;
  • In-depth understanding of mechanical design;
  • Experience in the valve industry an asset;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Bilingual (English / French);
  • Likes to solve problems and push limits;
  • May require some local travel.
